English: The Black Stain ; Alsace-Lorraine was the black stain of France. The ceding of the region to the German Empire in 1871 deeply hurt the French people. The desire for revenge in France was wide-spread.
Deutsch: Der Schwarze Fleck: Elsass-Lothringen war der schwarze Fleck von Frankreich. Die Abtretung des Gebiets an das Deutsche Reich im Jahre 1871 verletzte die Franzosen zutiefst. Der Wunsch nach Revanche war in Frankreich allgegenwärtig.
